I know the trail crew has been working a lot from the NT towards the gorge does anyone know if there are any sections of this trail that needs more work? _________________ Thanks to the interstate highway system,
it is now possible to travel across the country
from coast to coast without seeing anything.

I'm not sure if you meant just in that section, or what work was needed throughout the Sheltowee Trace, but here are some concerns I found:
Brush makes route finding difficult at the creek crossing
W of Virgil Todd Rd
37 30' 38.2" N 83 49' 32.8" W
Fallen trees and brush near trail head make route finding difficult
For 300' S of turn at Hales Ridge Rd and from there to 587
37 31' 17.9" N 83 51' 25.6" W
Heavy weed growth hampers travel (not very well travelled section?)
for the sections paralleling Cat Run Rd and State Hwy 700
near 36 47' 1.62" N 84 23' 19.4" W
Fallen trees (perhaps done to prevent 4 wheeler access) make backpacking VERY difficult. After the first couple, surely the rest could be cleared?!?
along Falls City Road
from 37 12' 0.79" N 84 13' 45" W to 37 11' 32" N 84 14' 17.5" W
Heavy weed growth hampers travel (not very well travelled section?)
North of Bridge Rock Rd
37 7' 49" N 84 15' 1.48" W
Thanks for all you do...

Regarding the 2nd section I listed:
Quote: | Fallen trees and brush near trail head make route finding difficult
For 300' S of turn at Hales Ridge Rd and from there to 587
37 31' 17.9" N 83 51' 25.6" W |
It seems Traildust has already addressed the concern:
Quote: | The NPLD Trail Crew has cleared a section of the Sheltowee Trace that for years has been bypassed. In Scot Ward trail book, the Guidebook for the ST that we sell, even Scot walked on past, not knowing and not seeing a trail there. But it is there. We suggest you update the Trailguide, page 25 to read,
...
161.90 150 feet down Hale Ridge Rd. turn left back onto the Trace leading into the woods.
163.50 Trail passes through small trailhead site. NRT sign on post. Go right down gravel-dirt road, wide enough for vehicles. |
At this rate, the whole trail will be pristine by the end of the weekend!
Thanks,

Thanks Deb. When were you out on these sections? We are working to establish more trail crews beyond the RRTC out of Morehead area including a roving trail crew to hit places where we don't have a crew. This is excellent stuff.
Can you PM me your email or send me an email at
director@sheltoweetrace.org so I can be in touch when we get this work done?
