|
|
Hello. I'm looking for info on riding near Cave Run. I'm looking to do a big loop: Park near Twin Knobs, ride FR 16. Left onto Big Limestone. Left onto Sheltowee. Left onto Lakeview Ridge. Back to car.
I have a bunch of questions:
1. Is this actually a loop? Some maps have it, others don't. Which are accurate?
2. How many miles will this be?
3. Are the trails in bike-able condition (not too many down trees...)?
4. Will there be many horses/other trail users on a November Saturday?
I'd love to hear! Thanks! |

Give it a day or so. Someone will answer. If you don't get answers then contact the Cave run bike shop. April the coowner will know what you need to know. _________________ Check us out at sheltoweetrace.twitter.com and on facebook in the hiking groups under The Sheltowee Trace. I'd second that; the crew @ Cave Run Bikeshop will have the very latest trail info. I don't have a map in front of me this morning, but I'm thinking that is an actual loop. And it might be better going clockwise. Ask John or April at the shop! |

Can't confirm the loop o mileage, but there's a lot of trees down on the trail south of that area from Stoney Cove to Clear Creek. I'm not sure about hikers or horses on that side of the lake, but you can count on hunters being out. Not sure if it's gun season - you may want to check those dates before committing to a weekend. _________________ In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. ~John Muir |

Cave Run Bike shop confirms the loop. Considered a intermediate ride. 18 miles.
I'll try to remember to post after I ride and reveal what I find. |

This is a real fun loop. It's best done from heading up the FS road first to Ambergy Rocks and Big Limestone. For the most part that section is a downhill single track and is awesome fun. Going the other way you'd be riding the FS road down which is all work to get up there and no fun getting down. You can park at the picnic area at the corner of 801 and the dam road for better access. The ST pops out just down 801 from that intersection. |

And I would just ride the ST down, it's funner than Lake View. |
