Can anyone tell me if the STA has ever discussed the section supposedly closed by the Lago Linda owners with the Forest Service?
It seems the owners are open to, and supporting of, the ST going through their property, eliminating some of the road walk through that area, but I'm not sure what the real story is or if anyone has approached the FS with the suggestion.
I'm going to hike to there from Natural Bridge in Dec. or Jan., hopefully stay with them for a night or two in one of their cabins, and see how open they are to the idea, but it would be nice to know if the FS would back the idea before hand.
Anyone from the STA want to join me? _________________ In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. ~John Muir |

The trail was closed by a neighbor of Lago Linda. The Lago Linda owners contacted the FS to allow the trail to move onto their property. The FS gave them some markers and told them to have at it. Lago Linda had thought that the FS would actually help clear and establish the trail instead of having to do it all by themselves. As you might imagine creating and clearing a new trail is a lot of work so they dropped the idea.
That is the understanding I have of the situation.
Currently Traildust is working with people in the area to discuss a re-route of the Sheltowee Trace in that area to get away from the long road walk. I don't if the discussions or plans involve passage through the Lago Linda property or not at this point. I drove to their place back in the late summer/early fall and it is a nice place with lots of ammenties that would be really beneficial to thru hikers. |

Thanks for the info. I won't duplicate the effort. I may still stay at Lago Linda when I hike south from Natural Bridge, though. A night at the cabin sounds better than hanging from the trees in the middle of winter! _________________ In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks. ~John Muir |

Be sure to post a trip report when you finish this section as we have it on our radar for next year. |

Lago Linda folks are great and had nothing to do with closing. Yep we are working to identify landowners for potential reroute of trail through the Forest out of Heidelberg. Don't anticipate getting it done until Fall of 2011 at the earliest.
Any business we can give to Lago Linda will be helpful in getting the neighbors to understand the economic value of trails. _________________ Check us out at sheltoweetrace.twitter.com and on facebook in the hiking groups under The Sheltowee Trace.
