Has anyone hiked the US 27 to Cumberland Falls part of the Sheltowee here in the last 6 months. I am thinking about possibly changing my spring trip to this trek if it will be possible.
I got the book by John Malloy and it is very helpful at least if it is still accurate.
I maybe making it a three day trek and was interested in how many good places there would be to camp along this section.
If anyone can help me,please let me know either on here or email me directly.
Thanks again... |

About 20 miles with camping on the south side of Indian Creek across Chestnut Flats and along the Cumberland River.
The first stretch with the old mine shafts are creepy in Railroad Hollow below US 27. There's a 2-mile road walk beginning at KY 700, crossing Indian Creek, and then on an gravel road down to the Cumberland River. It's not busy at all and nice for a road walk.
About 2 miles further is a sweet campsite beneath a pair of old beech trees...and I think you're in the park then. If you wanted to add more mileage, you could do a loop in the park and camp a 2nd/3rd night along the Cumberland north of the falls. One of the best portions of the ST.
some photos from KY 700 to a loop in the park
