I'm going hammock camping with three good buddies and we are still up in the air about which site we would like to tryout! We are some-what partial to the Red River Gorge for several reasons, it has a ready supply of water and looks very scenic, it is also some-what secluded, and it has many natural wanders that we would like to take advantage of such as rock faces and ravines to climb on and around. Does anyone know of any sites that are similar to R.R.G. or for that matter if it is open or accessible during the hight of winter? Once again thank you, and any advise would be greatly appreciated. |

Big South Fork.
That's it...that's what you want. It's a shorter drive from New Orleans, it's much larger than the red river gorge, got as many outcrops, arches, and waterfalls...and it's got a bigger river. The campgrounds will be largely empty in January, so you can take your pick. In my opinion, it's just a better place for hiking longer than a few days. _________________ Help map trails by submitting your waypoints and trail photos. |
