Cumberland River
Miles: 10.1
A.M. ascent out of brush and brambles to paved 700 Rte past broken down cars in front of homes like exhibition pieces. Then, on Thunderstruck Rd, a descent to Cumberland River wide and white-capped but shallow. Crossed over Gatliff Bridge to enter C. Falls State Park and clean all the urushiol away at camp shower and laundry up the hill. Historic brick lodge and mostly elderly patrons. Back past the official Falls area and along the river and impressive and perhaps largest rock house on ST. Now nearing Dog Slaughter Creek and darkness descending as I hope to be also, shortly, into restful slumber. No caffeine tea tonight, woke at 1am last wide awake and anxious about poison oils. "Leaves three let it be" but impossible if you have to crawl and walk through it for miles.[/url] |
