Hello All,

I've been backpacking for 25 years, and at age 53 still try to get out as much as possible. Living in Chicago's western suburbs, it's a long drive to my favorite places. I've hiked areas in the Southern Appalachians from northern Georgia to northern Virginia. I've been to the High Peaks of the Adirondacks in New York a few times, and in the opposite direction to Colorado's Front Range. Southern Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas have been destinations, and my most frequent place for backpacking is the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A few years ago I hiked a 5-day loop in Isle Royale National Park.

I've made several trips to Red River Gorge in Kentucky over the last 20 years, and hiked part of the Sheltowee Trace Trail there. In researching a backpacking weekend above-ground at Mammoth Cave I purchased some of Jerrell Goodpaster's books, including one on Cave Run Lake. In it, he describes a section of Sheltowee Trace from Clear Creek to Route 1274. This coming weekend or the next I plan to visit Cave Run Lake and backpack most of the way to Route 1274 from Clear Creek, camping somewhere near the southern end of this hike. This forum seemed like a good place for further information, and I'd also like to contribute with a report of my hike afterwards.

I'll start a separate thread about the information I'm looking for on this stretch of Sheltowee Trace.

I hope that wasn't too long-winded of an introduction Smile
DW
